Among Iranian cars, there are many popular engines, and today we are going to examine four types of them in this article.

First we want to show you a brief definition of each engine and give a brief explanation. Then in the next section we will compare all four types of engines with each other.
XU7 engine :
The xu engines, manufactured by the PSA Group, were used by the French company Peugeot Citroën. This series of xu engines have different volumes between 1600 and 2000 cc. They were mostly used in the eighties and nineties. The xu7 engine has a volume of 1761 cc and 8 valves, which is capable of producing 97 horsepower and 148 Nm of torque, which was first offered in Peugeot Pars. ((With code L6A)) Then, an improved version of this engine was unveiled, which produced 101 horsepower and 153 Nm of torque, which was installed on Peugeot Pars Sal, Samand LX and Peugeot 405. ((With LFZ code)) Also, at the end of the more powerful version of this engine with a production capacity of 110 horsepower and 155 Nm of torque at 4250 rpm, it was put on the production cycle and installed in Peugeot Pars ELX, Xantia and Samand Sarir cars. TU5 engine :
This type of engine is also made by PSA company, which was first used in 1986 on the Citroen EX car as a replacement for the xu engine. The tu5 engine has a volume of 1587 cc and 16 valves, which is capable of producing 109 horsepower and was first introduced in Iran by Iran Khodro Company in a Peugeot 206 Type 5 car.
EF7 engine :
The ef7 or national engine was introduced by Iran Khodro in collaboration with the German company f.e.v in 2008 and was put into production. Ef7 has a volume of 1700 cc and 16 valves, which was marketed in two categories: gasoline and gas. This engine is capable of producing 115 horsepower. The main fuel for the ef7 engine is natural gas, and with natural gas, it has a longer life and durability, because the octane number of natural gas is higher than gasoline. This was the first gas engine in Iran and for this reason it became known as the national engine. Cars that are equipped with ef7 or the national engine can be named Samand Soren, Samand Lx and Dena. Also, turbo models of this engine have been produced and have played a significant role in power and torque.
K4M engine :
The K-Series engines were built by Renault in 1990 and are internal combustion and four-stroke. The k4m engine has a displacement of 1598 cc and 16 valves and is capable of producing 105 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. This engine was used in the famous L90 (Logan) car.
Review and comparison :
The xu7 engine has its own problems due to its age, such as high consumption, high noise and very high heat ( burning cylinder head gasket ) are among these problems. Of course, the xu7, in turn, has advantages such as the abundance of parts and spare parts, proper traction and familiarity of repairmen with the system of this engine. But the tu5, which is more up-to-date and modern than the xu7, has reduced its problems and can be considered a better option than its rival. Less fuel consumption, relatively less breakdown as well as less noise, more power, more acceleration and a better emission standard are some of the advantages of this engine. Of course, poor torque at low engine speeds can be considered among the disadvantages of this engine. The ef7 engine also has good power and high acceleration, and also benefits from the intelligent variable valve timing system (CVVT). Unfortunately, in the models produced lower than 1992, problems such as overheating of the engine, scarcity of parts, burning of the cylinder head gasket, unfamiliarity of repairmen and mechanics in repairing it can be seen. For this reason, at first, the ef7 engine did not have many fans, but by solving some of these problems in models higher than 92, this engine gradually gained its popularity and fans. The ef7 gas-burning version has advantages such as high acceleration, good power and low fuel consumption. The k4m engine is a good engine compared to the competitors. Low maintenance cost, good acceleration, acceptable torque, good parts quality, durability and long life, low failure are the advantages of k4m. But this engine, in turn, has its weaknesses and problems due to its age. From the four mentioned engines, the choice is up to the audience, who knows what meter and criterion is better and more valuable based on their taste, and therefore chooses an option.
